THE HARRISON’S BIRD FOODS STORY Our veterinary roots run deep—The Harrison name has been caring for animals since the 1920s. In the 1970s, Dr. Greg Harrison moved his family and veterinary practice to a rural farm in South Florida so they could pursue a dream of raising their own food and breeding pet birds. This experience initiated them into a “natural” world, where preventive medicine became the protocol. Dr. Harrison became a recognized leader in avian health. In the late 70’s Dr. Harrison created the first all-bird veterinary practice in Lake Worth, FL. The practice, named The Bird Hospital. Early on he noted that a vast percentage of pet bird ailments could be prevented with excellent nutrition.This would become the basis for things to come. In the mid-80’s Dr. Harrison teamed with his daughter Tanya, and with the help of the avian veterinary community and top avian nutritionists and created Harrison’s Bird Foods – the first commercially available, certified organic pet food (not just birds)!

The following decades would see major advances in avian veterinary medicine and avian nutrition and the Harrison family would be at the center of these. Several high-regarded clinical texts, including what is often referred to as The Bible of Avian Medicine Avian Medicine: Principles and Applications as well as Clinical Avian Medicine would feature the Harrison name. Harrison’s would expand from a small warehouse in Pawnee City, Nebraska to l
